Amherst College is located in Amherst, MA. It was founded in 1821 and is widely regarded as one of the premier liberal arts colleges in the nation. The college is renowned for its committed faculty and rigorous academic life. It offers Bachelor of Arts degrees.

The school offers 36 fields of study with 850 courses in the sciences, arts, humanities, mathematics, computer sciences, social sciences, foreign languages, and classics. Several interdisciplinary fields, including premedical studies, are offered with an unusually open curriculum. Students are not required to study a core curriculum and may even design their own unique interdisciplinary major. Freshmen may take advanced courses, and seniors may take introductory ones.

Diversity, defined in its broadest sense, is fundamental to Amherst’s mission. The college enrolls students from nearly every state, from more than 40 countries, and across the entire economic spectrum.

The college’s scenic 1,000-acre campus is near the center of the town of Amherst, about 70 miles from Boston, the epitome of a small college town. Public transportation is available via bus, shuttle, and commuter rail to Boston and beyond.
